Gnars are a new way to fund extreme athletes

We prefer a world where kids aren't sold energy drinks by their heroes. So as a community of action sports enthusiasts, we've formed a DAO to rethink how extreme athletes get sponsored.

Gnars are NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain

Based on Nouns open source and CC0 artwork, they're stored fully on-chain with no external dependencies. Each one gets you a DAO vote and memberships are available at auction, forever.

Skate Cuida x That’s Gnarly

The video embedded in the tweet below is skateboarding legend Bob Burnquist talking about the collaboration between his charity, Instituto Skate Cuida, and That’s Gnarly! We’re teaming up to raise funds to help Brazilian kids through the art of skateboarding by committing 40% of mint proceeds for the week to Skate Cuida. That’s Gnarly Contests

The first round of contests on That’s Gnarly are ending! Athletes can submit clips in the category of their sport for a chance to win up to $250 in prizes. Submissions will be voted on by Gnars and That’s Gnarly editions holders. In addition, you can refer your friends and each referral gains you an extra entry to the contest. Read the twitter thread below for more details and get your submissions in while you still can!

Gnarving Update

Will this week be the week it finally happens? Only 29 auctions left until the gnarving! For those that don’t know, the gnarving is when the duration of each auction doubles - think of it like a Bitcoin halving but for Gnars auctions - and this time the auction duration is going to increase from 40 to 80 minutes. Giving is Gnarly - Support young skaters in Brazil and promote Skate Cuida
- This proposal is requesting 1 ETH, with half going directly to Bob Burnquist’s Instituto Skate Cuida and the other half going to fund a contest on That’s Gnarly where 5 creators will win 0.10 ETH each. The mission is to support the kids and a social good chosen by the Gnars community and drive more attention to Gnars and Instituto Skate Cuida via the contest.

Sponsor Elisa (paragliding) to Become an Official Sponsored athlete
- This proposal is requesting 1 ETH for Elisa (@rio.from.above), a paraglider from Rio de Janeiro, to become a full sponsored Gnars athlete. This proposal includes the funding of a 400 km flight during the trade winds season, a distance-record-breaking expedition.

- This proposal requested 1 ETH for Pedro Henrique, also known as Nem, a 27 years old skateboarder and beatmaker musician, to become a full sponsored Gnars athlete. Nem has made quite a few submissions to That’s Gnarly and has even been featured in a few daily drops, check out his profile here.

- This proposal requested 0.35 ETH to fund travel to 3 locations and filming for the final pieces of KnowHow’s GNAR’ly video. He will be traveling to Corfu, Agrinio, and Patra.

- This proposal is a renewal for a previously sponsored athlete Vlad (sktbrd.eth). He is requesting 1 ETH per month for 4 months, to cover a 6 month Gnars sponsorship extension. Please read through the proposal for more info about Vlad’s contributions to Gnars.

- This proposal is requesting 0.69 ETH to commission artwork that will be featured as a droposal and integrated into a single-page ad in the Nouns Comic series by Comics DAO. This is a repeat of a past proposal that did not meet quorum.

Onboarding Bernardo Nassar (Big wave bodyboarder)
- This proposal is seeking 1 Gnar NFT to begin the athlete onboarding process for Bernardo Nassar, a big wave bodyboarder located in Brazil. He is also part of the NXF team, who as mentioned in the previous proposal discovered and are pioneers of “Avalanche”, one of the largest waves in Brazil.
